The YAPC::Europe::2006 Backstage Pass Mirror In The Bathroom We now have a call for proceedings. This is essentially directed at speakers. As we've had problems contacting some authors, we're including the text here too, in the hope that we reach as many of the speakers as possible. If you're not a speaker you may want to skip the next bit :) Now we have the proceedings, we're looking to get further input from the speakers. We plan to have two formats for the proceedings, a printed booklet and a CD. The booklet will include abstracts to talks and speaker bios, along with sponsor information. The CD will include the same in PDF format, together with local links to any material that is submitted by authors for inclusion on the CD. Recommend formats are HTML slides or PDF files. It is worth bearing in mind that if providing proprietry formats, not everyone will be able to read or view your presentation or paper. So what can a speaker send? We would like to encourage the submission of full papers on your talk subject, however we are happy to accept slide presentations, or both. Papers and presentations should be submitted to The Organisers by end of day Friday 21st July 2006. Please prefix your submission mail with [PAPER] if possible, as it will help us to spot the real mail from the spam. Too Nice To Talk To As previously announced .... we have a schedule :) Please bear in mind that everthing is subject to change, although we'll be a tad disappointed if there were any major changes. I hope you'll agree we have been rather fortunate to have a very strong lineup for this year's conference, and there are plenty of talks to interest everyone, whatever your skill level. We would like to thank all the speakers for submitting their talks, as it's them you'll be coming to see :) Doors Of Your Heart For those who cannot live without an internet connection, you will be pleased to know that we have made progress on getting wireless access into the venue. Although the CBSO Centre does have broadband access, it is a 2MB link shared between 10 venues across the city. Not really enouh to keep you lot happy ;) So we have been looking at having a dedicated ADSL Broadband feed. This is looking good and we hope to have confirmation of access very soon. Brian and myself did a site visit recently to test out the wireless coverage between rooms and the main hall. Brian set up a small network and we wandered around the building with laptops to guage the connectivity. We're pleased to report it's good, and with the planned amount of kit we expect to install, we hope to be able to cope with the demand. Twist And Crawl The website login was released to speakers and dispite a few hiccups, most of them have been able to update and save their details. As such expect an announcement on the launch of registration VERY soon! Best Friend As some of the rooms at Jury's Inn can accommodate 2 double beds it may be worth people trying to pair up if your don't mind sharing. As such there is now a wiki page to help you find a room mate. Save It For Later With the conference getting ever closer (less than 3 months away now) it's getting difficult to contain our excitement over everything we have to tell you. We know some of our announcements are long, as some have already told us, but we have such great stuff to tell you, we thought the old adage of "better out than in" to be quite suitable ;) End Of The Party More announcements coming shortly, so keep an eye out for them. If you have any questions about the conference the organisers can be reached at The Organisers, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Cheers, PS: This Bulletin was brought to you by the inspiration of The Beat, classic Ska from the heart of Brum (that's Birmingham to non-locals). |
